The Barcelona and Catalonia Booksellers Association is a non profit professional organization of a democratic character, continuing the tradition of the guild established on January 31, 1553, in the city of Barcelona.
It is made up of bookstores, businesses that carry out legally and as a main activity the commercial selling of books and have their headquarters in Catalonia. It is an autonomous entity, its area of operation is Catalonia and has a decentralized structure in businesses groups according to the territorial boundaries of Lleida, Tarragona, Girona and Barcelona.
The Barcelona and Catalonia Booksellers Association has as its goal to encourage the representation, management, promotion and defense of the professional and economic interests of bookstores, and it generally collaborates in the diffusion and promotion of books. Because of its composition, constitution and intention, it is an ideal voice to represent Catalan bookstores as a whole.
The functions of the Association include giving direct advice to bookstores and technical help in respect to business activity, performing studies about the booksellers community, its market and profession, encouraging the professional interchange and the realization of courses, seminars or meetings of a clearly training character for bookstores’staff.
The Barcelona and Catalonia Booksellers Association organizes the celebration of Diada de Sant Jordi (Saint George’s Day).
